Clash for Windows Proxy Modes

Rule mode routes traffic according to rules in the profile and is usually the best starting point. Global mode sends most traffic through the selected proxy and is useful for temporary tests. Direct mode bypasses proxy nodes and can help isolate configuration problems.

If you just completed subscription import, start with Rule mode. If nodes do not connect, use Troubleshooting to check each layer.

The system proxy switch affects applications that honor OS proxy settings. Before turning it on, select a usable node; before exiting, make sure the proxy state is cleaned up.
